Carmageddon, produced by Stainless Games and released in 1998, is a vehicular combat video game. The objective of the game is to win races by completing either X number of laps or by destroying all the opponent vehicles. Players are given a choice of vehicles, each with their own characteristics in terms of armor, weight, and speed.

There are three levels of difficulty: amateur, professional and endurance. The player must race through 36 different tracks set up as pedestrian zones or city streets. The game features different modes including knockout, lap knockout, and chase the pedestrians. If the player runs over the pedestrians, they earn bonus points but they also risk being caught by the cops.

Players can access power-ups such as instant repair or turbo boosts hidden around the tracks or earn them by killing opponent drivers. The game features open-world gameplay with minimal restrictions on where players can roam.

Despite the game receiving criticism for its excessive violence and gore, it gained popularity for its creative gameplay mechanics and has been regarded as a cult classic in the gaming industry.
